ThirstyI sit in the dark, brave.My knees hug my chestfor comfort, not from fear.It isn't truly dark, anywise.The inky black is punctuatedby white-hot stars & black-dotbats that appear to flyacross the cresecent moon.A malamute howls, primal.Free, I have tunneled outof my self-imposed prisonof dogma, thirsty for freshwine from a new source.I feel the earth tremblebeneath me, as watersurges toward me, likeblood flowing to the heart.I bide my time, patient,waiting to discover the nextoasis.Judith Jennings 10/6/2007
